SHIPPING CONTAINER HOUSE

PHUKET, THAILAND

TASK

Use three shipping containers to design an 800 sq ft. house for a small family who has experienced a natural disaster in a city selection.

CONCEPT

In 2004, Thailand experienced one of it’s worst tsunamis in history. While natural disasters of this caliber are rare, it is vital to consider a location’s extreme weather patterns when building, This home is specifically designed to withstand 8’-9’ waves that may result from these tsunamis. The home is elevated by pillars in order to create a passage for the force of tsunami waters. The large glass windows on the first floor allow for the water to pass through leaving the 2nd floor and 3rd floor unscathed.
